Oils are commonly used as a timber coating for exterior applications as they penetrate the surface of the timber and provide protection, while also emphasising the natural grain of the timber. These traits also make timber oil coatings very popular with architects and specifiers, along with the fact that timber can be allowed to ‘grey off’ to achieve a particular design intent.
